A is for Asparagus

A painting of an apple is too easy to start with, it's obvious.

So, I picked my favorite "A" vegetable. I usually buy it from the grocery store, like most people, but I once had it fresh from my neighbor's garden. It was amazing. It has been long time since I had that fresh asparagus yet I can remember how different and much better it tasted being just picked.

I even remember what I made with it. A salad with red lettuce, halved red grapes, slivers of red onion topped with the asparagus and dollops of goat cheese, the dressing was a fresh herb vinaigrette. I was so excited to be offered such a treasure of freshly picked asparagus that I invited my neighbor to have dinner with us. We sat on my back deck in the sunshine and my kids, then very small, behaved admirably. Sometimes I forget about how wonderful a certain vegetable can be and sharing a healthy meal with a friend, it doesn't always have to be a celebration with cake!
