A Warm Thought on a Cold Day

There aren't very many "D" Zero Point foods. But one of them held great memories for me, dragonfruit. A couple of years ago, a few old high school friends and I met up in Kauai to spend a week together. A whole week together after not seeing each other for years! One of my friends owned the condo where we stayed and had been saying we needed to get together there. I certainly know when a good opportunity is being offered and these were people who held a special place in my heart. So, with some cajoling and a flurry of group text messages, we made it happen!

It's very hard for me to begin telling you about one of the most fun times of my life. We saw the sights, stayed up late talking, explored different beaches, visited the local farmers market (where I discovered what a dragonfruit was!) then went shopping, snorkeling and surfing! It was a great adventure. There were no kids to take or husbands to confer with, it was a bit like being single again. The vacation was a luxury of time that I hadn't allowed myself to have in a long while.

Despite not having seen each other for ages we fell back into those old friendships and relearned about each other. We all ate different things, we all had diverse political beliefs and we all had various family lives but we seemed to understand that and enjoyed each other's company while we had the time. I miss that camaraderie, especially going to the beach, feeling the warm sun on my body and swimming behind Melissa in our snorkel gear searching for the sea turtles.
