Happy New Year!

We are a few days into the new year of 2020! It feels so exciting to me! A new year, a new decade and the numbers 20 20 together, how fun!

Even though I believe any day of the year offers opportunity to start anew, January 1st is always a good starting place.

It’s human to want to keep going, keep getting better, keep solving or keep exploring. Improving versus status quo. Status quo is ok until it’s not then it’s time to improve! When you’re ready then your self talk needs to be positive. Be kind to yourself, there’ll be setbacks but be kind, goals aren’t always easy. If they were easy then they’re probably not much of a goal.

There’s a couple areas of art I’d like to improve on this year. First, the human figure. Creating figurative art is a secret desire of mine that I’ve been working on for years and it’ll probably be many more years until I feel proficient! But it’s my goal this year to get better with help from a classically trained artist.

My second goal is to explore color. For most casual observers, when looking at art it’s the first aspect of a painting they see. So, I’m taking a workshop with Camille Przewodek who is an expert in how outdoor light effects the color in landscapes. Her palette sometimes contains 28 different colors to mix with! I guess I’ll be purchasing some more paint soon!

How about you? What kinds of goals do you have for this new decade?

I wish you the best this year! I hope whatever you decide to accomplish this year that it all goes as planned.
